About Roni
Roni is an ethnic world fusion dancer, bringing ancient and modern women's dances to stage and classroom and focusing on dance as a medium for authentic, soulful expression. In her performing and teaching, Roni pays homage to Persian classical, Sufi, belly dance (particularly American Tribal Fusion, Vintage Oriental, and Turkish Oriental), Turkish Romany, and Silk Road folk dance genres. She performs internationally as a solo and company dancer, including as a touring solo dancer with electro-ethnic-reggae band Anna RF. Roni is also currently performing with world renowned Miriam Peretz’ dance company, the Nava Dance Collective, in its world premiere of Bustan Veradim, a Persian (classical, folk, Sufi, and ethno-contemporary) dance production focused on spreading cultural understanding and peace through the arts. Formerly, Roni was with the DC-based tribal fusion belly dance troupe Bella Quattro.
Roni has performed in theaters across Turkey, India, Israel/Palestine, and the USA and on Iranian and Iraqi television and online television. Performance grants and venues include: the Washington, D.C., Commission on the Arts and Humanities (chosen competitively two years in a row), NBC4 (television channel), the 3rd and 4th Annual Sufi Festival in the Negev Desert, the Hebrew University, RadioIran (Irani online television), and theaters, festivals, and clubs across Israel, India, Turkey, and the USA.
One of Roni's greatest passions is teaching and facilitating dance among women and girls' groups. She believes in dance as a tool for women’s health and community empowerment, for healing and blossoming from the inside, out. Roni established and directed a non-profit women and girls' dance program in San Andrés (Petén), Guatemala, and teaches dance (including on a volunteer basis for non-profit organizations) in the USA and Israel. In her classes, she strives to create a space where participants feel fully comfortable, open, and communal, and she puts a strong emphasis on technique, musicality, body awareness, togetherness, and authentic expression-- giving our souls, hearts, and minds a strong kinetic channel for expression and release.
Roni has undertaken and continues in multi-year intensive study and mentorship with world-renowned Marta Vizueta Bohorquez and Miriam Peretz. Roni has also undertaken significant study with Artemis Mourat, Suhaila Salimpour, Jamila Salimpour, Zola Dubnikova, Jill Parker, Zoe Jakes, Katalin Schafer, Yasmin Henkesh, Reyhan Tuzsuz, Sophie Armoza, Ansuya, Carolena Nericcio, Asharah, and dozens of other dancers in the USA, Israel, and Turkey. She trains in the Jamila and Suhaila Salimpour Technique formats and continues her studies in Classical Persian, Sufi (Bektashi), Turkish Rom, Ethno-Contemporary / Modern, Turkish Orientale, and Vintage Orientale dance forms.
